Q: Can anyone join a chapter?

A: Only one person per professional discipline can join a chapter. Ex., if you are a residential real estate broker and we already have one in our chapter, you would not be able to join our chapter, but we can refer you to another chapter, or you could open a new chapter. However, if you were a commercial real estate broker, you would be eligible to join this chapter.

Q: How do you know new members are reputable?

A: The application requires references are named. The Tri-Town BNI membership committee will check the references. Business is passed via word of mouth, so before a potential member comes to a meeting they must have spoken to or been invited by a member of the group. Everyone must have a sponsor to join or one is assigned. The sponsor will interview the candidate prior to submitting the application.

Q: What if a member gets a referral and does poor work?

A: Our ethics committee will investigate complaints about anyone who gives a lead that was not satisfactorily handled.

Q: What occupations benefit the most from networking?

A: The individual, not the occupation, is the key. If you're focused, you have a dream and you're willing to make a sacrifice, we want you in our group. Remember – it’s not Net-SIT or Net-EAT, it’s Net-WORK!

Q: Are members supposed to bring visitors?

A: BNI meetings are closed meetings, however, members are encouraged to bring visitors for those occupations that are open. The visitor may apply for membership if he/she is a viable candidate. So join today and LOCK OUT YOUR COMPETITION!

Q: Do ethical rules for certain professions prohibit participation in BNI?

A: BNI understands the importance of the ethical concerns governing certain professions and acknowledges that rules can differ by location. BNI therefore requires its members to uphold the rules of its profession so as not to violate the professional’s ethical obligations. In the event that BNI’s general rules could potentially violate a professional’s ethical code, BNI’s rules are superceded by the dictates of the professional’s ethics’ code. Significantly, a primary objective of BNI is to educate its membership in ways to market and grow business. It is BNI’s intent to ensure that this is permitted.
